Professor Mike Clarke joined the Clinical Trial Service Unit and Epidemiological Studies Unit (CTSUin 1989 following a BA in chemistry and while finishing his DPhil on the history and epidemiology of suicide at the University of Oxford. Since then, he has been part of the Secretariat for the breast cancer overview, with a particular focus on the effects of ovarian ablation or suppression for women with early breast cancer.

He has nearly 30 years’ experience in the design and conduct of rigorous assessments of the effects of interventions through the use of randomised trials and systematic reviews.

Mike was Director of the UK Cochrane Centre from 2002 to 2011 and now leads the Northern Ireland Methodology Hub at Queen’s University, Belfast and is Director of the Northern Ireland Clinical Trials Unit.
