Julie graduated in Mathematics from Durham University in 1982. She was employed as a mathematics teacher and then as an accounts assistant before joining CTSU in 1989 as a data manager for the MRC leukaemia trials. Whilst at the department she did a Statistics Diploma at Oxford Brookes and then a PhD through The Open University in publication bias in the reporting of randomised clinical trials of treatments for childhood Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia, which was awarded in 2003.
During her time at NDPH (CTSU) she has worked on a number of other projects including the MRC Immediate/Deferred Orchiectomy Study for prostate cancer and the meta-analyses conducted by the Early Breast Cancer Trialists’ Collaborative Group. She is now the data manager/analyst for the Cuba Prospective Study
