Maria Nowicka
PhD
Statistician
Maria Nowicka is a statistician specialising in the analysis of clinical trial data. She joined the Clinical Trial Service Unit and Epidemiological Studies Unit (CTSU) in Oxford Population Health in 2024, where she contributes to the design and analysis of clinical trials. Her interests lie in Bayesian inference, advanced statistical modelling, and computational techniques to improve trial design and interpretation.
Before joining CTSU, Maria was a postdoctoral research fellow at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, University of Oxford (2020–2023), and at the Department of Pathology and Cell Biology, Columbia University Medical Center in New York (2018–2020). She led and contributed to multi-disciplinary projects that combined experimental data with mathematical and statistical models, particularly in cancer immunology and T cell dynamics. She has collaborated with academic and pharmaceutical partners across the UK, USA, and Sweden.
Maria holds a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Leeds, where she developed Bayesian and stochastic models to study vascular signalling and immune cell behaviour. She is proficient in Python, R, Stan and STATA, and is committed to reproducible, transparent research practices.
