Quality Manager of the NDPH Wolfson Laboratories
Gareth McClean joined CTSU in 2013 and is the Quality Manager of the NDPH Wolfson Laboratories.
Gareth is a member of the senior laboratory management team and is responsible for the management of the Quality Management and Technical Systems to maintain the laboratories accreditation to the ISO 17025: 2005 Standard.
Gareth supports a specialist team managing the laboratories activities from a QA and QC perspective ensuring that the laboratories function to the highest possible standards and produces the highest quality data. He works closely with the Laboratory Manager to ensure criteria for method validation, assay performance monitoring, and accommodation and environment are met. Gareth also works closely with the Research Fellow to implement QA and QC during assay development.
Gareth has provided considerable support to collaborating groups, including QA and QC management for the method validation and assay performance monitoring for the UK Biobank biomarker project investigating 36 classical risk biomarkers in all 0.5 million UK Biobank participants.
Prior to joining CTSU, Gareth gained his PhD at Queen’s University Belfast in 2004 and upon graduation, worked in a variety of roles within the healthcare sector focusing on chemical sensing, medical devices and clinical diagnostics industries. In 2012, he moved into the area of Quality Management Systems before taking up the role of Quality Manager at NDPH Wolfson Laboratories.
