Effects of chemotherapy and hormonal therapy for early breast cancer on recurrence and 15-year survival: an overview of the randomised trials

Early Breast Cancer Trialists' Collaborative Group (EBCTCG)

Introduction

This web site contains extended sets of figures for the 2005 "systemic therapy" paper published in The Lancet 2005; 365: 1687-1717.

The Contents List below provides hyperlinks to four sections: the paper itself; the figures and tables presented in the paper ("publication version"); an enhanced version of the figures presented in the paper; and a substantially expanded set of the same figures together with additional figures illustrating the detail of the tables.

The format of Annex-Figures 1-14 resembles that of the corresponding Text-Figures 1-14; but the Annexes to the Tables each consist of several very detailed Figures. Appendix to Table 1 gives "forest plots" of trial-specific data and rate ratios, with one line per trial, for some 200 different trials. Appendix to Table 2 (side-effects of polychemotherapy) and Appendix to Table 3 (side-effects of about five years of tamoxifen) give detailed "forest plots", with one line per trial, for the incidence of second cancers (e.g. contralateral breast, endometrium etc) and for mortality from particular causes (e.g. stroke, thromboembolism etc).

In addition, there are (slow-loading) sets of reduced-size illustrations which show the entire set in miniature, again hyperlinked to the individual figures, and also Adobe Acrobat ® (PDF) files of the illustrations.

Editors' Note: Various improvements to the web site are planned. In case of difficulty fitting figures onto the page, adjustments to page margins and font size might be necessary; some should be printed in 'landscape' mode. In particular, if using Microsoft Internet Explorer ® we recommend using "Medium" Text Size (View menu) or, if using Netscape Navigator ®, Mozilla ® or Firefox ®, Font Size 12 (Edit - Preferences... Appearance - Fonts menu). "Super-size" versions of all figures are included so that fine detail can be seen clearly on the computer screen, although it is the "normal" versions which should be printed.
