Marwa joined the Clinical Trial Service Unit (CTSU) as a DPhil student in Population Health in October 2021. Her research focuses on understanding the mechanisms through which the socioeconomic determinants contribute to the risk of cancer and cancer-specific mortality among different populations using large cohort studies. She is supervised by Dr Ben Lacey, Professor Sarah Lewington and Dr Toral Guthani.

Prior to her DPhil, Marwa obtained BSc (Honours) and MSc in Medical Laboratory Sciences from Alzaiem AlAzhari University, followed by a postgraduate diploma in Research Methodology and Biostatistics from the University of Medical Sciences and Technology in Sudan. Upon her graduation, Marwa worked in health sector, higher education and non-governmental organisations in Sudan. She has also conducted research studies on the pattern and distribution of breast cancer among Sudanese population, the cancer mortality and quality of life of female patients. She joined the Nuffield Department of Population Health at Oxford in 2020 for the MSc in Global Health Science and Epidemiology.
