Prostate Cancer Trialists Collaborative Group (PCTCG)
6000 deaths in 8000 men
In collaboration with the Netherlands Cancer Institute, CTSU is coordinating a worldwide meta-analysis of 30 trials in prostate cancer. This has already shown that maximal androgen blockade makes little or no difference to 5-year survival [31,32], and is now addressing the much more difficult question of whether hormonal treatment should start promptly, or be delayed in the hope that the disease will not progress. Early treatment involves better control of the cancer, and the key question is whether this can be achieved without unacceptably large side-effects.
