Are you suitable for the THRIVE Study?

This page explains reasons why you may not be able to take part in the THRIVE study. This could be because of medication you are currently taking, or your medical history.

1. Your current medication

If you are taking a 'STATIN' (e.g. simvastatin, atorvastatin, pravastatin, fluvastatin, or rosuvastatin) then you PROBABLY ARE SUITABLE for the study. If you are uncertain, please call the Freefone number to check.

If you are taking one or more of the tablets shown below, then unfortunately you would not be suitable for the study.

Most other medicines can safely be taken with the tablets provided by the study.

Drugs that should not be taken with study treatment:

  1. For lowering cholesterol
    • 'FIBRATES':
      • bezafibrate (Bezalip, Bezalip Mono, Bezagen XL, Liparol XL, Zimbacol XL)
      • ciprofibrate (Modalim)
      • fenofibrate (Fenogal, Lipantil, Lipantil Micro, Supralip)
      • gemfibrozil (Lopid)
    • HIGH DOSE NIACIN (more than 1g per day)
      • nicotinic acid (Niaspan)
      • acipimox (Olbetam)
  2. For irregularities of heart rhythm
    • verapamil (Berkatens, Cordilox, Half Securon, Securon, Securon SR, Univer, Tarka, Verapress MR, Vertab SR 240, Zolvera, Ethimil, Ranvera, Vera-Til, Geangin, Hypaneze)
    • amiodarone (Cordarone, Cordarone X, Amidox, Amyben)
  3. Other
    • ciclosporin (Neoral, Sandimmun, SangCya)
    • danazol (Danol)

2. Your current medical history

If you have had cancer (other than skin cancer) in the last 5 years, then we would not be able to enter you into the study.
