Michael Clarke DPhil

Michael Clarke DPhilAfter a degree in Chemistry at the University of Oxford, Mike Clarke did a PhD on the history of suicide of poisoning. He joined CTSU in 1989 to work on our individual patient data reviews in cancer, in particular the overview of breast cancer treatments. He remains one of the senior researchers on this project at CTSU, but divides his time with his work within The Cochrane Collaboration - the world's largest organisation dedicated to preparing and maintaining systematic reviews of the effects of healthcare interventions (www.cochrane.org). He was chair of its international Steering Group until 2004 and has been Director of the UK Cochrane Centre since 2002. He is also an Adjunct Professor at the School of Nursing and Midwifery in Trinity College Dublin.

Mike is also actively involved in teaching and research supervision. He helped to establish the MSc in Evidence Based Health Care at the University of Oxford and continues to teach two modules, on Randomised Trials and Systematic Reviews.
